Small Groups

At Southwest, we want to be a church of small groups rather than a church with small groups because we believe that people grow best in community with others. By being in a small group, we "do life" together.

Get into a small group today!
Here are several ways you can get connected immediately:

  • Join one of the many existing small groups. Click the Browse Groups link below.
  • Visit the Purpose Center after any one of our weekend services.
  • Join us for the Small Group Connection Event, Sunday, October 5, at 12:30 PM. This is where we will launch new groups, fill up existing groups and get your small group questions answered. A light lunch will be served and no childcare will be provided. Click the link to the right to register.

Interested in hosting a small group?
We need hosts in all areas of the Coachella Valley. Please click the Host Group link below.

Curriculum Suggestions

If your group is new, we require that you go through the six week group study, Beginning Life Together. This is a study that will bring your group even closer while also helping each participant to understand the five purposes and how those purposes should be incorporated into the small group dynamic on a continual basis.

If your group has already been through Beginning Life Together, we have a study you might consider, called The Truth Project.

1) Foundations Series for Small Groups

Foundations is a fresh, innovative small group series about theessential truths of the Christian faith and how these truths are to be lived out in your relationships, your character and your work.

Foundations

The series is comprised of eleven different four-week studies, with separate participant’s guides and teaching DVDs.

SCC has a loaning library of these teaching DVDs for small groups and you may contact the small groups department at 200-2000 ext. 2244 or Deborah Sterud for more information. *Note: Participant guides will need to be purchased for each person in the study.

Click here for more information about the Foundation series.

2) The Truth Project

This phenomenal 12 week, DVD-based small group curriculum comes from Focus on the Family. It provides a starting point for looking at life from a biblical perspective and will challenge your group to really examine the way they view the world and how they act on the beliefs they hold.

Each lesson discusses in great detail the relevance and importance of living out the Christian perspective in daily life.

The only cost for materials is approximately $85 for the DVD set. Accompanying leaders and participant handouts are available for free.

Please note: A member of your small group will need to attend training if your group decides to use this material. Contact Shawna Koon at 760-200-2000 ext. 2223 if you would like to attend a future training session in April 2008.
